Laura Green is a graduate of the Muscular Therapy Institute
in Watertown, Massachusetts. She received her bachelor’s
degree at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York and grew
up here in Massachusetts.
Laura came to massage from a teaching career. She taught
English to middle and high school students with special
behavioral and emotional challenges. For years she suffered
through the lower back, neck, shoulder and foot pain that
are all too common side effects of high stress jobs. In
order to perform effectively at work it became increasingly
obvious that she would need to find better ways to care for
her body. She was already quite physically active, running
and doing yoga regularly, but it just wasn’t enough. She
would leave work on Friday completely exhausted and never
manage to recover physically or mentally by Monday morning.
Laura began to search for something that would help her
de-stress at the end of the week.
Massage was one of the first things Laura tried. She found
that massage eased the pain she felt in her body and helped
calm her mentally and emotionally. It slowed and deepened
her breathing and brought stillness to her thoughts. Regular
massage made falling asleep at night easier. Over time it
also helped minimize the pain from chronic plantar fasciitis
in her feet and dramatically reduced the pain and tension in
her low back and shoulders. Through this personal experience
Laura came to see the impact massage can have on overall
quality of life, and when it was time for a career change
she leapt at the chance to bring this relief to others.
Laura’s work has its foundations in Muscular Therapy, which
is a derivative of Swedish Massage with a slightly more
anatomical perspective. Laura works with clients to relieve
chronic pain and tension, increase awareness, and bring
their bodies into better balance. She is physically active -
snowboarding in the winter, hiking in the summer, and doing
Vinyasa style yoga and adventurous dog walking year round.
She is familiar with the various physical issues that can
come up for people living active lives. Laura incorporates
elements from Sports Massage, Myofacial Release, and
Neuromuscular Therapy into her sessions.
Laura believes that massage therapy is a very important part
of good self-care. She works with her clients to identify
the sources of their discomfort and come up with ideas about
ways to effect positive change. Her work is varied according
to each client’s specific needs. A session with Laura might
involve deep tissue work to alleviate pain from chronic
tension or break up scar tissue from old injuries,
stretching and lengthening techniques to encourage strength
and suppleness in muscles and fascia, or gentle soothing
techniques to help restore a sense of calm and ease. Laura
looks forward to working with each client to create a
treatment that enhances his or her ability to live
comfortably in their bodies. |
